The Throat Chakra, known as Vishuddha Sanskrit, is the fifth of the seven primary chakras. It is centered in the throat. It is often symbolized by a blue sixteen-petaled lotus flower.
Functions: The Throat Chakra is associated with self-expression, authenticity, and all forms of communication. When balanced, we experience honest and effective communication, can easily articulate ideas, actively listen to others, and express our emotions clearly. We can speak the truth clearly and unashamedly. When out of balance, we may struggle with excessive talking, dominating conversations, being overly critical, spreading gossip, finding it difficult to express ourselves, or being frequently misunderstood.
Health and Wellness: Physically, this chakra is associated with the throat, vocal cords, thyroid gland, and respiratory system.
Yoga Poses That Affect The Throat Chakra
Yoga poses focusing on the neck, throat, and shoulders are particularly beneficial for balancing the throat chakra. Here are some yoga poses that are good for the throat chakra:
Fish Pose (Matsyasana)
Fish Pose opens the throat, stretches the neck, and expands the chest, all areas related to the throat chakra.
Shoulder Stand (Sarvangasana)
Shoulder Stand stimulates the throat area and thyroid gland. Regular practice can promote well-being and bring attention to this area of the body.
Camel Pose (Ustrasana)
Refine the focus of Camel Pose by allowing the head to gently fall back once you are stable in the pose. This will help to open the throat in addition to the chest and shoulders,
Lion’s Breath (Simhasana)
