Nurture your spiritual growth and wellness through understanding the Crown Chakra from a Christian perspective. Discover the path to balance and faith.

The Crown Chakra, known as Sahasrara Sanskrit, is the seventh of the seven primary chakras. It is located at the top of the head. It is often symbolized by a violet or white thousand-petaled lotus. These thousand petals represent continuous growth.

Functions: The Sahasrara is associated with spiritual connection and enlightenment. When balanced, we have a strong connection to God and understand his will for our lives. We have an eternal mindset that influences the decisions we make in our daily lives. When imbalanced, we may find ourselves over-intellectualizing, lacking spiritual connection or growth, or experiencing skepticism, confusion, or depression. We may feel like God has abandoned us or not be able to sense the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Health and Wellness: Physically, this chakra is associated with the brain, nervous system, and pineal gland. It influences overall mental and emotional health.

Yoga Poses That Affect The Crown Chakra

Yoga poses that facilitate stillness, meditation, and connection to God can be particularly beneficial for balancing and energizing the Crown Chakra. Here are some yoga poses that are good for the Crown Chakra:

Headstand (Sirsasana)

Headstand

This inversion brings blood flow to the head. Headstands are one of the poses that commonly cause injury, so modify using Dolphin Pose instead if you are not familiar with the pose.

Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Childs Pose

This restorative pose promotes a sense of grounding and connection, helping you tune into spiritual awareness. It is often used as a posture of prayer.

Lotus Pose (Padmasana)

Lotus Pose

This seated pose encourages stillness and meditation, facilitating reflection on scripture and listening for God’s voice. If you have tight hips or sensitive knees, try Easy Seat instead.

Corpse Pose (Savasana)

Shavasana, savasana

This final relaxation pose allows for deep relaxation. In a world where rest is often hard to come by, sneaking in moments of peace throughout our day can help us to create time and space to connect with our Savior.

Biblical Parallels to the Focus of the Crown Chakra

The Bible extensively addresses spiritual growth and having an eternal mindset, emphasizing the importance of growing in faith, understanding God’s will, and focusing on eternal rather than temporal things.

Scriptures

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:12-14

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-3

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:15-17

Journaling and Prayer Prompts for the Crown Chakra
