Explore the Third Eye Chakra from a Christian perspective. Discover yoga poses, affirmations, and journal prompts for spiritual growth.

The Third Eye Chakra, known as Ajna in Sanskrit, is the sixth of the seven primary chakras. It is located on the forehead between the eyebrows and is often symbolized by an indigo two-petaled lotus flower.

Functions: The Third Eye Chakra is associated with intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness. When balanced, we have mental clarity, can use our imagination, set goals, solve problems, and experience spiritual growth and development. When overactive, we may experience excessive daydreaming, difficulty concentrating, or be overly judgmental. When underactive, we may have poor intuition, difficulty visualizing or setting goals, or feel spiritually dead.

Health and Wellness: Physically, this chakra is associated with the brain, eyes, pituitary gland, pineal gland, and hormone balance.

Yoga Poses That Affect The Third Eye Chakra

Yoga poses that calm or stimulate the mind (depending on need) and create space for introspection are particularly beneficial for balancing and energizing the third eye chakra. Here are some yoga poses that are good for the Third Eye chakra:

Child’s Pose (Balasana)

This pose encourages introspection and relaxation, allowing you to calm your mind and sort your thoughts.

Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

As a gentle inversion, Down Dog increases blood flow to the head and brain, stimulating the area addressed by this chakra. Going upside down can promote reflection, clarity, and a new perspective.

Dolphin Pose (Ardha Pincha Mayurasana)

This pose strengthens the shoulders and upper body while increasing blood flow to the head.

Easy Seat (Sukhasana)

This pose encourages mindfulness and is often used for meditation.

Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani)

This restorative pose calms the nervous system and enhances introspection, benefiting the mindfulness addressed by this chakra.

Biblical Parallels to the Focus of the Third Eye Chakra

The Bible encourages believers to seek divine guidance, wisdom, and discernment in all things, which can be understood as spiritual intuition. It emphasizes the importance of relying on God’s direction rather than human understanding. We are encouraged to continually grow in faith, knowledge, and alignment with God’s will.

Scriptures

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105

Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe. Proverbs 28:6

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ. Philippians 1:9-10

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18
